Say NO to Recall. Say NO to Divisive Politics.
RB Councilman John Gran’s Recall Official Statement:
When you call 911, you need the Redondo Beach Fire Department to respond.
I’m facing a Recall because I voted to retain Local Control of our Fire Department.
Mayor Bill Brand opposes my decision but does NOT support this Recall. Councilmembers Christian Horvath and Laura Emdee also do NOT support this Recall.
Redondo’s City Council considered closing our Fire Department to join LA County Fire. After careful examination, there’s not enough savings to justify closing our Local Redondo Beach Fire Department.
I spent 4 months talking directly to the Fire Fighter’s Union, trying to find the savings. The money is not there. Tough decision, but I did my job, and said “No.”
The proponent’s accompanying Recall “facts” are misleading. For accurate information, please read the Easy Reader article (Sept. 12th, 2019). Don’t be fooled – just more divisive local politics.

Recalls are products of criminal acts or serious improprieties, not elected officials simply doing their job. This Recall sets a dangerous precedent for Redondo.
Ask yourself: “Why single out and Recall Councilmember John Gran because he voted for Redondo’s Residents’ best interests? Aren’t Recalls used for inappropriate behavior, not policy decisions?”
Say “No” to Divisive Local Politics. Decline to sign any Recall petition and help us Keep Our Local Redondo Beach Fire Department.
If you have questions about my decision, please contact me at 323-813-5929 or via email at John.Gran@Redondo.org. I’m always available to discuss what’s best for Redondo Beach.
I respectfully ask you to Not sign ANY Recall petition, even if a friendly RB Firefighter asks you to. This is just more divisive politics and negative campaigning. Thank you. John.
